Food Road Trip
Well, lately my favorite thing to do is get in the car and drive. Drive to Carlsbad, NM, Rockport, TX, Albuquerque, NM. When I eat in these beautiful towns, I have this incredible desire to eat local food. Most of the time it is a wonderful surprise. Different than the usual Tex-Mex that I am accustomed to, but good. In New Mexico the big question is Green or Red. I usually, respond Both! I can't pass up enchiladas at a small Mom and Pop restaurant in Carlsbad, NM.
It is on San Jose Blvd. The red is just a bit spicy with a beautiful deep red color. They know what to do with chiles. The green enchiladas are good, too.

From Carlsbad we went to El Paso. I will have to tell you there isn't much on that lonely stretch. The road takes you past El Capitan and past the highest point in Texas, Guadalupe Peak.
It is beautiful. We passed the Salt Flats. That was interesting. Of course, my friends have seen these particular sites since their childhood and don't really pay much attention to them. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride to El Paso. We drove thru the mountains. Breathtaking, can't wait to go again. We headed to the north side of El Paso. Our destination, Outlet of El Paso. The Outlet seemed fairly new, not over crowded. I found the people to be friendly and helpful. The clerk, Brenda at Old Navy, told me Carnitas Queretaro was her favorite place to eat. She gave me directions and even had their phone number.

On the way to and on the way back we pass thru a small west Texas town of Pecos. We stopped to see my friends cousin, Guillermo, a very pleasant man. He was cheerful and happy to see strangers. We talked a bit and said farewell. I managed to buy a dozen tamales from the local factory just off the main street, behind a gas station. The owner was very polite. The tamales were fresh and delicious. I will stop there again in March on the way to Angelfire!
