|This is an easy recipe for making bunuelos. Bunuelos are a delicious crispy tortilla sprinkled with a cinnamon and sugar. We hope you enjoy making them!|
|Mix the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder in a large bowl. Cut in the shortening with
a fork or the old fashioned way with your hands. Slowly, add the water or if you prefer
a little anise flavor use anise tea. The water should be warm, not necessary to be very hot. Knead.
After you knead your dough, divide into at least 12 dough balls. The size depends on the size of the pan you will use to fry the bunuelos. With a rolling pin or palote roll out a thin tortilla. You can do a little hand stretching to make them thinner.
The usual practice is to roll them all out, lay them on a table or counter and let them dry for a few minutes. Then place them in hot oil. They should be lightly browned on both sides.
Lay them on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Sprinkle generously with a cinnamon sugar mixture. They are a family favorite and traditionally served on special ocassions.
